Professor Spitzer gave a presentation, Replacement Parts: Disposability of Migrant Workers in the Canadian Labour Market, at a forum on temporary migrant workers, hosted by McGill University’s Institute for the Study of International Development.
As part of the York Centre for Asian Research’s [insert weblink], Gender, Migration, and Contemporary (Im)mobilities in Asia, Dr. Spitzer was invited to share her paper, Moving Images: Visual Story Telling and Transnational Filipino Family Reunification.
Denise traveled to Colombo, Sri Lanka to participate in a meeting of the Migration Health and Development Research Initiative.
At the 10th International Convention of Asia Scholars in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Professor Spitzer presented the paper, Bodies at Work: Gendered Performance, Place, and Migrant Beer sellers in Southeast Asia.
Dr. Spitzer attended the XI International Association for the Study of Sexuality, Culture, and Society in Bangkok, Thailand where she presented a paper, Whose Bodies? Whose Boundaries? Gendered Performances and Beer Sellers in Southeast Asia, co-authored with Dr. Naomi Tschirhart and Dr. Ratana Somrongthong.
On behalf of the Malaysian National Institute for Health Policy Research, Dr. Spitzer traveled to Kuala Lumpur to offer a workshop to health policy analysts on Knowledge Translation and Health Policy: From Evidence to Action.
On behalf of co-authors, Dr. Hodan Mohamed, Mr. Najib Abdi, and Mr. Mohammed Abdulkadir, Dr. Spitzer presented a paper, Lessons from North-South Collaborations: Towards More Equitable International Research Partnerships at the Society for Applied Anthropology Conference in Sante Fe, USA.
